A large crowd of about 35 people attended last night's AGM in the Claregalway National School. The outgoing Chairperson Paddy Greaney welcomed everyone and expressed his delight at seeing the large numbers attend. Secretary Rita O'Reilly gave a rundown of the groups year from the successful Autumn Theatre in October, the three act play and its eight festivals, a three night run in the Town Hall and the culmination of the year with the performance at the All-Ireland's in New Ross.

Treasurer Adrian Moran presented the accounts and books and gave a detailed breakdown of expenditure and incomes. Paddy Greaney went on to  thank each and every member individually for their personal contribution to the group. He acknowledged the work of Producer Philip Cribbin and thanked his fellow officers.

3 Act Play Producer Philip Cribbin praised everyone for co-operation shown all year and  for the 100 per cent commitment to the intensive and grueling circuit. He expressed his dissapointment that an All-Ireland trophy was not in Claregalway after all the efforts, but said that there could be no regrets as the production in New Ross of the highest level. At that point he presented Stage Manager Fidelma O'Rourke with her All-Ireland trophy for Best Stage Management. After the huge appluase Fidelma thanked everyone stating that her award was only possible with the hard work shown by each and every person.

Philip went on to describe an event taking place on Friday night. Compántas Lir and the SMA Claregalway are co-hosting The Preda Akbay Theatre Group as they visit Claregalway. The group will perform a powerful human rights production and a celebration of Filipino Music, Dance and culture "Once We Had a Dream". The show will focus on the theme of the group's main goal and purpose to promote and protect the dignity and the Human Rights of the Filipino people especially of women and children. It will be introduced by their founder, Nobel Peace Prize Nominee and Children's Rights Campaigner Fr.Shay Cullen. Philip urged everyone to come out and support the worthy cause. The show will be in the SMA Hall, Claregalway, Friday 27th April @ 8pm. Admission is €7 and all proceeds go directly to Preda. See their website for further details. Also on the night will be the presentation of a cheque for €2,300 from Compántas Lir which was raised from the proceeds of the three night run in the Town Hall in March.

Next up for discussion was the timing and format of the one act plays (October), a three act play, producers for these shows, dates of performacne in the Town Hall 2008 (April 08) , next meeting times (August) and an end of year celebration night out in Cloonacauneen Castle (May).
