A newcomer to Compántas Lir group, Bernadette is known as the voice of GAlway Bay FM, where she has been heading the news department for the past decade. A languages graduate of NUI, Galway, she was actively involved in drama in school and college. During here time as a speech and drama teacher in the city, Bernadette produced several award winning children's performances. Her production of Silent Voices for Scoil na Trionoide Naofa in Mervue won an award in the 1994 Galway Youth Theatre/Concern Famine Commemoration Drama competition. In 1995, a group of her pupils obtained the highest marks in the country for a poetry performance in the Royal Irish Academy of Music Speech and drama examinations. The academy marked this achievement by inviting the group to participate in their 150th anniversary celebrations. Many of her pupils have gone on to work with Galway Youth Theatre. She has now decided to tread the boards herself. Comments (0)
