Compántas Lir held their preview viewing of this year's three act play, The Year of the Hiker on Thursday night 28th February in Carnmore Community Centre. This was the first performance in front of a live audience, with full lights sound , costumes and make-up. The show went very well and the crowd enjoyed the night. The show opens its tour on the Amateur Drama Circuit on Saturday 1st MArch in Kildare.  Joe Lacey played by Vincent Moran talks with his brother Simey played by Dermot Hession Directory Bríd Conneely was looking forward to taking the play on tour, "This play is ready for and needs an audience". This play was a favourite of hers and Bríd took the chance at being able to produce it this year. Set in a cottage in Ireland in the 1960's, the opening act sees a family prepare themselves on the day of the marraige of youngest child Mary to a Doctor. While the family absorbs the hapiness of the day, there is a strange void due to Michael "the Hiker" Lacey, Mary's father, who left his family to fend for themselves 20 years before. He left behind three yound children, a wife and sister-in-law. When the Hiker shows his face the mix of hatred and resentment come up. However there are feelings that are much deeper and stronger inside them all and the play follows as all the family members come to terms with the sudden reappearance of the Hiker and what he means to them all. Even the Hiker must question himself and explain the lost years.
With the cast, stage crew and back room all featuring a wealth of talent and a healthy mix of ages, this looks to be a much anticipated show by Compántas Lir, who incidently celebrate 25 years in existence this year. Go n-éirigh an bothar libh.

excellent play and thoroughly enjoyed.people of roscommon are still talkin about the "hiker"-the old fellow!little do they know about all the marathons he has completed!!!!!!!!!
