The Results from our final festivals came flooding in over the weekend with Compántas Lir coming out on top in three meaning qualification for the All-Ireland Finals. The news filtered through to the group members who had congregated at the closing night of the Claregalway Drama Festival. Cheers echoed through the hall and the celebrations began.
The play, Cambusdonald Royal, has had the crowds laughing when it appeared at eight festivals in March from Kerry to Sligo, Claregalway to Cavan. In addition to the play winning overall awards, Philip Cribbin has won four Best Director/Producer awards, and the leading actor, Vincent Moran has won 5 Best Actor awards for his protrayal of Brother Barnabus. Paddy Greaney who plays Brother Donatus has also received 2 acting awards, Frank Moran received Best Lighting and the Adjudicator's Award, John Keane for Best Sound.
The weekend results were 1st in Shercock, Cavan and Glenamaddy, 2nd in Claregalway. This brought our total to 4 firsts, 2 seconds and 1 third. Only the top three results count in the league standing so this puts us in joint first place.
