Plays

Information on all previous plays performed by the group since its inception

The main focus of Compántas Lir is to annually produce a three act play which would qualify for the All-Ireland Confined Drama Festival. Qualifying for the All-Ireland is very competive and based on performances at various Drama festivals in February/March of each year. A drama group may participate in up to 8 nights, however only the best 5 scores will count. Scores are awarded for Best Actors, Sets, Lighting, Director and overall best Production. Compántas Lir last qualified for the All-Ireland in 2002.

Since the amateur drama circuit begins in the early year, rehearsals for the play must begin a few months earlier. Thus the groups year begins with an annual Autumn Supper Theatre. This usually takes place in October in the Carnmore Community Centre and is made up of one or two one act plays. This gives the groups new actors a chance to display their talents.

In addition to the all-ireland circuit, Compántas  Lir also perform their annual three act locally. For the past number of years this is in the Town Hall Theatre in Galway City.
